EIMS (Excess Inventory Management System)
Overview

Tyco's Fire & Building Products division, a $600 million entity within the
$40 billion parent, Tyco, required an online tool to manage the
sale of excess products via their internal sales force.
The Process
Tyco required that the system be developed within two weeks.
Ideal gathered the requirements from Tyco staff and created a specification for the
system, which Tyco accepted. Tyco required that the system would provide a secure
login for inside sales reps, be capable of uploading CSV files generated by their J.D.
Edwards system (modifying quantities for existing products, adding new products -
Phase II of EIMS will use API's to extract data from J.D. Edwards and update
sales data back to J.D. Edwards and will provide a public interface for clients),
provide the Admin with the capability to: Create/Edit/Delete products,
categories, sub-categories, sales representatives and produce 2 reports:
View All Products and View All Product Sales.
The Ideal development team commenced programming and was ready for testing in
seven days. After testing, modifications were made to accommodate upload of
tab delimited files, as well.
Delivery
EIMS was setup on Tyco's web server utilizing an MY SQL datbase. Response times for
displaying over 1700 products was under one second. Ideal delivered the completed
EIMS to Tyco within 10 days and then worked with Tyco on training approximately 40
users.
