Much political hay has been made about American jobs being lost to outsourcing in India,
China and Russia, among many other countries.
Although there is certainly some
truth to this assertion, the fact is, we're sending money offshore, not jobs,
and that is exactly what we send offshore whenever we buy a foreign product, such as
automobiles, TV's, cell phones, agricultural products, oil, and many thousands of
other products. The U.S. trade deficit
stands at roughly $500 billion per year. Of that, less than 0.2 percent
is spent on offshore software developers.
Another consideration is the fact that as we spend money overseas we create
a larger market for our exported goods. Developing nations yearn for American
products and it takes money to buy them.
Finally, the unemployment rate in the U.S. is historically low and this has
occurred while the offshore outsourcing business has boomed.
Ideal utilizes both onshore and offshore development resources. While we'll
always be sensitive to our clients needs, we feel that political rhetoric
should not govern the realities of our business world.
Offshore outsourcing helps create a global market. Isn't that good for everyone?
